The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC, IAST: Puṇe Mahānagarpalika) is the civic body that governs the inner limits of Pune, India. It is in charge of the civic needs and infrastructure of the metropolis, which is spread over an area of 484.61 sq. km. and has 3.4 million residents. Established on 15 February 1950,[14] the executive power of the PMC is vested in the Municipal Commissioner, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer appointed by the Government of Maharashtra.

The PMC plans to prepare a city EV readiness plan and set up a city EV Fund to provide incentives for those purchasing EV and creating infrastructure in Pune. Number of registered vehicles as on March, 2018 is about 52 lakhs with growth rate 9% per annum. No. of registered vehicles were only 22 lakhs in 2008. Every day more than 1100 new vehicles are being added to the study area. The share of two-wheelers is 75%, followed by cars with 17%. Parking, congestion and pollution problems are aggravated by the rise in number of vehicles. The Comprehensive Mobility Plan, created for the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority, suggested in 2018, that 1084 new vehicles get registered approximately every day. The analysis presents a total no. of 120 sites, based on convenience, traffic demand management and the revenue opportunities. The 120 sites have been divided on the basis on high, medium and low utilization factor derived from the model analysis.
