The Indian government has outlined its vision to make the country a developed nation by 2047, with a major focus on the shift towards electric vehicles (EVs). The plan includes tax incentives, production linked incentive schemes, and the mandatory provision of charging infrastructure to support the adoption of EVs. The government aims to decarbonize the freight transport sector by shifting modal share from road to rail. The vision was discussed by Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh during a session at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.

Snap-E Cabs and Jio-bp unveiled a new electric vehicle charging hub in Kolkata. The hub, located in the basement of Axis Mall, has 150 stations, including 26 with one-hour rapid charging technology. It operates under the Jio-bp brand, a joint venture between Reliance Industries and British Petroleum. The hub was inaugurated by the British High Commissioner to India and the British Deputy High Commissioner to East & North-East India. Snap-E Cabs plans to expand its network to 2,500 charging stations by the end of the fiscal year.

Kolkata: A majority of electric buses have stopped operating to Kolkata airport since Tuesday, when the airport authorities shut the sole charging station there following a dispute between Airports Authority of India and the state-owned West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) over bill payments.

The central government's commitment to fostering an indigenous EV ecosystem is evident in the approval of a USD 3.5-billion Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for the manufacturing of automobiles and auto components, thereby nurturing the development of the EV supply chain in the country, as per the report.

Tata Motors, one of the largest commercial vehicle manufacturers in India has public transport with the delivery of Starbus EVs to Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC). This is claimed to be milestone as part of a larger order as per the agreement between TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd, a Tata Motors subsidiary, and BMTC, encompassing the commencement of supply, operation and maintenance of 921 state-of-the-art 12-metre low-floor electric buses, over a 12-year period.

MG Motor India on Wednesday said it has signed a pact with Zeon Electric Pvt Ltd to boost its current EV charging infrastructure. Zeon Electric is the sixth charging point operator (CPO) that MG has partnered with. This partnership will focus on strengthening the EV ecosystem at key locations, covering highways, cities, and MG dealerships in Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, the company said in a statement.

As the demand for electric bike tends to grow so does the need for smart charging stations. The Ministry of Power reports that there are currently 1640 active public EV chargers in India. However, as the population grows, so will the demand for EVs, leading to a simultaneous increase in the need for charging stations.

Mumbai: German luxury car manufacturer Audi on Thursday inaugurated an ultra-fast charging station, conceptualised and developed in collaboration with ChargeZone, in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) here. Claiming to be India's first ultra-fast charging station, it has a total capacity of 450 KW, which delivers 360 KW of power to an electric vehicle, Audi India said in a statement.

Tata Power on Monday said its subsidiary Tata Power EV Charging Solutions has inked an agreement with India Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) to install more than 500 fast and ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging points across India. Tata Power will install EV charging points across multiple IOCL retail outlets, a statement said.

BPCL aims to install 7,000 electric vehicle charging stations by next year. To alleviate electric vehicle owners' range concerns, BPCL has initiated over 90 Electric Vehicle Fast Charging Highway Corridors across the nation, ensuring a fast-charging station approximately every 100 kilometers on both sides of major highways.

The government has been pushing state-run oil companies to build a reliable network of charging facilities to help EV drivers overcome range anxiety. This is crucial for faster adoption of electric mobility in the country and bolster the government's aim to cut costly fuel imports besides reducing rampant pollution.

Shivasharanappa G N, Municipal Commissioner, Kanpur Municipal Corporation, said in the statement, "Tata Power's hi-tech and reliable charging solutions will undoubtedly play a crucial role in accelerating our transition towards a sustainable future." The state government aims to set up EV charging stations across various municipal cities, including Agra, Lucknow, Kanpur, and Prayagraj, with an additional 100 at heritage sites and around 200 at popular tourist destinations like Mathura-Vrindavan and Varanasi-Ayodhya.

Tata Power has announced the activation of its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure along the Chandigarh - Shimla highway, one of the more popular routes in Northern India, covering a total distance of 111 km in a bid to address the demand for reliable charging options on this route.

Gujarat-based EV charging company Charge Zone has launched its 360 kW super charging network for electric vehicles. The company said that it plans to strategically deploy these superchargers along major highways and city centres, starting from Mumbai in November.
