E-rickshaw registration: Maharashtra yet to catch up with top states

PUNE: Maharashtra, the leader in overall electric vehicle (EV) sales in the country, has far fewer e-autorickshaws than most of the big states, including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh. Maharashtra has registered 16,120 electric three-wheelers since 2014 as compared to a total of 9.42 lakh overall autorickshaw registrations over the same period. The bulk of the three-wheelers are being operated on petrol-CNG, petrol and diesel, showed data maintained by Vahan, a platform owned by the Union highway ministry.

By next year, you’ll be able to charge EVs at 9 new bus depots in Delhi

NEW DELHI: Delhi government will provide electric vehicle charging facilities to people at its nine proposed bus depots. These new depots will come up in Kirari, East Vinod Nagar-II, Narela, Daurala, Burari, Savda Ghevra, Kapashera, Gadaipur and Chattarpur. Work has already begun at the Kirari and Savda Ghevra depots. A senior official of the transport department said that most of these depots would be ready by the end of this year and some by early next year. The official added that plans were in place to enhance the necessary infrastructure to promote electric vehicles in the city

Charging infrastructure important for transition to EVs, says BEE Director General

A strong public charging infrastructure is crucial for the transition to electric vehicles (EVs), according to Abhay Bakre, DG of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency. Speaking at a conference in Delhi, Bakre identified establishing infrastructure as the key problem facing EV adoption, adding that the economies of scale of the sector could reduce the costs of associated technologies. India is seen as a key growth market for EVs, with sales more than tripling to 10.54 lakh units last year. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency is part of the Ministry of Power and promotes energy-efficient projects and guidelines.
