New Delhi - Amazon on Monday announced that it has more than 6,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in its India delivery fleet, making deliveries in more than 400 cities.

Ford has filed a patent for a new electric vehicle charging solution that would enable multiple EVs to be charged from a single plug. This bidirectional charging system would allow power distribution between EVs in a ‘chain’, in which the first vehicle’s charging port can be connected via a cable and an adaptor to charge other electric vehicles.

Servotech Power Systems has announced an initial investment of Rs30 crore ($4.05m) to produce EV charger components and lithium-ion batteries. Aprroximately 40,000 sq ft facility in Sonipat, Haryana, will produce EV charger components and lithium-ion batteries. Servotech Power is a leading manufacturer of solar, EV chargers, power-backup and other smart power solutions.

On June 1, a day after India recorded its highest monthly sales of electric vehicles at over 1.5 lakh units, the government re-jigged the FAME 2 subsidy that was a major factor driving the electric adoption. The reduction in subsidy amount of electric vehicles had an immediate effect on the demand for EVs.

Kerala-based start-up GO EC Autotech Pvt Ltd plans to install 1,000 electric vehicle (EV) super-fast charging stations across India, adding to the 70 already in Kerala and 33 across the country. By locating the new stations in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and rural areas, GO EC plans to cater to customers in remote locations and make it easier for them to adopt EVs. The firm has also made deals with restaurants and shopping malls to help EV owners access charging facilities while enjoying their visits.

PANAJI: Given the inevitability of electrification in the transport sector, the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) has called for the need for a 'siting study' - a research of locations identified to set up EV charging stations.

During the training session, Mahesh Patankar, managing director, MP Ensystems, offered several examples of EVCI siting studies from India and around the world. He emphasised the need for multiple stakeholders to be involved in the study and for local policies to be modified to promote EVCI.
